A Country Is What It Eats
A Country Is What It Eats |

You’ve probably heard the phrase, ‘You are what you eat’ many, many times. As a country, it’s really true and it’s really frightening. It’s been reported that Americans eat one out of every five meals in their cars. And one in three children eats fast food every day. Every day!
Also, for every American, every day, agribusiness produces 3,800 calories of food. This is over 1,000 calories more than we need each day. And it’s 500 calories more than was produced 30 years ago. It’s no wonder that more than one-third of us are obese. Not to mention the obesity rate for children has doubled in the last 20 years and the rate for teenagers has more than tripled. Our country needs to make a dietary change. This change doesn’t have to be overnight. In fact, it’s unrealistic to think it can be done this quickly. We need to encourage our families and friends to add just one whole SuperFood each day to their diets. Between all the SuperFoods and their sidekicks, there is something that will appeal to everyone. Then we need to work to replace one fast food meal with one that includes SuperFoods. By gradually weaning ourselves from a high-calorie, low-nutrient diet we will have healthier bodies and happier, more active lives. Then we won’t mind if someone tells us, ‘We are what we eat.’ |
